Description

RMS Lusitania was a British ocean liner, named after the ancient Roman province of Lusitania, which is part of present day Portugal. The ship entered passenger service with the Cunard Line on 26 August 1907 and continued on the line's heavily traveled passenger service between Liverpool, England and New York City, which included a port of call at Queenstown, Ireland on westbound crossings and Fishguard, Wales on eastbound crossings.
During the First World War, as Germany waged submarine warfare against Britain, the ship was identified and torpedoed by the German U-boat U-20 on 7 May 1915 and sank in 18 minutes. The vessel went down 11 miles (18 km) off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland, killing 1,198 of the 1,959 people aboard, leaving 761 survivors. The sinking turned public opinion in many countries against Germany, and became an iconic symbol in military recruiting campaigns of why the war was being fought.
Lusitania was constructed as part of the competition between the Cunard Line and other shipping lines, principally from Germany, for the transatlantic passenger trade. Whichever company had the fastest and most luxurious ships had a commercial advantage: Lusitania and her sister Mauretania together provided a regular express service between Britain and the United States until the intervention of the First World War. The two ships both held the Blue Riband speed record for a transatlantic crossing at different times in their careers. Mauretania was generally the slightly faster of the two and continued to hold the record after the war until 1929.

LUUUUUUCY. This sat around for far too long and should have gone out with the others. I'm not too proud of it but this ship has been giving me trouble creative wise. Her head is too big and the dress is not how I wanted Oh and I've been using a new website for editing so her page is very different the the proceeding ships in this series. I have two more liners planned for this series folks.

Theme Song: "Falling Slowly" By Glen Hansard
Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice

"One of the most hastiest ships to ever sail. I held the Blue Riband until my sister Mauretania came along. We were equally hasty. Soon, our equally hasty sister Aquitania came along. When we heard of Titanic's sinking, I was shocked Olympic never told me. She said I wouldn't understand. I overheard her talking about Titanic to Britannic. That's when I heard the words 'Not even to Lusitania cause she wouldn't understand.' and that's when I realized Titanic sank. I kinda knew her pain but didn't care cause of how hasty I am. I was converted into a troopship when World War 1 broke out. My two sisters were converted into hospital ships. I went down in 1915 cause of a single torpedo by U-20. Who am I? I am RMS Lusitania."
